Singer Charged With DUI in Nashville

Police charged Mark Collie with driving under the influence after he was found slumped over in his car.

George Mark Collie was found behind the wheel of his vehicle with the engine running on the Vanderbilt University campus just before midnight Thursday, according to an arrest report provided by the Nashville Police Department.
The 51-year-old country music singer smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot watery eyes. He told campus police he had drank a beer, the report said. A police affidavit said Collie took a field sobriety test but failed. He refused to take a blood alcohol test.

A message seeking comment was left with Collie’s manager, Don Light, but wasn’t immediately returned Friday.

Collie was taken to jail but has been released on a $1,500 bond, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Department.

Collie had a modest run of recording success in the early 1990s. His hits include “Three Words, Two Hearts, One Night” and “Even the Man in the Moon Is Cryin’.”

He has co-writing song credits with Tim McGraw, George Jones and Garth Books, and has done some TV and film acting.
