Ravens’ McNair has DUI charge dropped
|
The drunken-driving charge against Baltimore Ravens quarterback Steve McNair was dropped Tuesday because a related DUI charge against his brother-in-law was reduced to reckless driving. “It’s good. I’m glad it’s over,” McNair said as he left a Nashville courtroom. McNair was a passenger when Nashville police stopped his pickup May 9 for speeding. The former Tennessee Titan was charged because police said McNair allowed his vehicle to be driven by someone who was inebriated, brother-in-law Jamie Cartwright. Cartwright, who refused a breath test and was charged with drunken driving, will serve two days in jail within a month, pay a $350 fine and attend DUI school. Because Cartwright’s DUI charge was dropped with his plea bargain, the charge against McNair was dismissed. ‘Pacman’ Jones cited for traffic tickets Suspended NFL player Adam “Pacman” Jones received several driving citations in a traffic stop last month in Williamson County, Tenn., where he has a home. Jones was pulled over June 10 in his orange Lamborghini because the tags did not match the car, WKRN-TV in Nashville reported. Deputies said he had switched the plate from another vehicle he owns. He was cited with a registration violation, as well as a residency violation for having a Georgia license and failure to show proof of insurance. A court appearance was scheduled for Aug. 10. The Tennessee Titans cornerback was suspended for the 2007 season over several legal scrapes since being drafted in 2005. •Francis “Bucko” Kilroy, who spent 36 years of a 64-year NFL career with the New England Patriots and was one of the founders of the NFL scouting combine, died Tuesday at 86, the team announced. BALCO lawyer cites Libby in plea for leniency A lawyer who admitted leaking grand jury testimony of Barry Bonds and other athletes to the media asked a federal judge in San Francisco for leniency Tuesday, noting President Bush commuted I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby’s prison sentence for what he perceives to be a similar crime. In doing so, Troy Ellerman joins a growing a list of defendants who have made the same arguments since Bush said the former vice presidential aide’s 21/2-year sentence in a case involving the leaking of the name of a CIA operative was too harsh and commuted it to probation and a fine. Ellerman is arguing for a sentence of 15 months rather than the two years federal prosecutors are seeking. U.S. District Court Judge Jeffrey White said last month that two years was too light of a sentence and refused to accept a plea deal. Ellerman, 44, is to be sentenced Thursday. Gay off to a running start in European track Tyson Gay, who won the 100 and 200 meters last month in the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, made an impressive European debut Tuesday with a 200 win in Lausanne, Switzerland.
