Nolte charged with DUI

Nolte, 61, was charged with one count of driving under the influence and one count of being under the influence of the drug gamma-hydroxybutyrate, commonly known as GHB. Both are misdemeanors.

Nolte was arrested September 11 while driving on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu after a California Highway Patrol said he was “weaving and driving erratically.”

He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Malibu Superior Court, but defendants are not required to appear for arraignment in misdemeanor cases.

The actor shot to fame in the 1976 TV miniseries “Rich Man, Poor Man.” He has received Oscar nominations for 1991’s “Prince of Tides” and 1997’s “Affliction.” Among his other film credits are “48 Hours,” “Down and Out in Beverly Hills” and “Under Fire.”

Nolte entered a Connecticut psychiatric and substance abuse facility after his arrest. A statement from his publicist said he would be treated there “as long [as] he feels it is necessary.”
