Richie, 25, the daughter of singer Lionel Richie, was taken into custody at 1:45 a.m. without incident and tested for drugs after she failed a field sobriety test. The Glendale Police Department booked Richie at 4:50 a.m. and released her at around 7:15 a.m., Glendale Agent John Balian told FOXNews.com. “She was very cooperative with us and humble,” Balian said. “We had no problems with her.” California Highway Patrol Officer Todd Workman told FOXNews.com that officers received a 911 call about a black Mercedes sport utility vehicle traveling the wrong way on State Highway 134 in Burbank around 12:30 a.m. |

A continuance has been granted in Nicole Richie's driving under the influence case. Superior Court Commissioner Steven K. Lubell on Tuesday set a new date of July 11 at the request of a defense attorney. That means the trial could start on that date or within the following 10 days, said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for prosecutors. Nicole Richie Charged With DUI
Nicole Richie was charged Friday with misdemeanor driving under the influence. In addition to the single count, the case contains an allegation that Richie had a prior misdemeanor DUI conviction in June 2003, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said. The California vehicle code specifies that if convicted of DUI twice within 10 years, a person can be sentenced to between 90 days and a year in jail, fined between $390 and $1,000, and have driving privileges suspended. Officers assigned to the CHP's Altadena office responded to reports by motorists that a sport utility vehicle was traveling east in the westbound lanes of the 134 Freeway, near the Buena Vista Street entrance in Burbank, the CHP said.
