Firing ‘Unfair,’ DUI Deputy Says.

TAMPA — Daniel Brock said he’s never had a drink of alcohol. Ever. “It’s a personal choice,” he said. The former Hillsborough County deputy spoke Thursday to address his recent firing and allegations he boosted his DUI arrest totals by ignoring the agency’s standard operating procedures and possibly arrested innocent people. Brock doesn’t avoid drinking because of any religious reasons or as a result of any tragedy involving alcohol. His family never drank when he was growing up, he said, and he’s never felt the need to do it either. He doesn’t have a problem with people drinking responsibly, he said. It’s when they get behind a wheel that he does. Brock said he has become a scapegoat for prosecutors who dropped what he considered viable DUI charges and that an internal affairs investigator launched the investigation against him out of a personal grudge.
