Pr. George’s Proposes DUI Victim Memorials
The Prince George's County Council introduced legislation yesterday to install "Don't Drink and Drive" signs at accident sites where someone has died at the hands of a drunk driver. The program, modeled after one in Colorado, would be the first in the Washington area to use public funds for roadside memorials to commemorate victims of drunk drivers and to raise public awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving. Fourteen people who had their licenses revoked because of drunken driving convictions were arrested again because they drove to court-mandated DUI meetings. They each face between one to six months of jail time and up to a $1,000 fine.
