A staged auto accident in front of San Dimas High School met with mixed reactions from some of the juniors and seniors it was supposed to impress. Despite the barrage of anti-drunken-driving advertising, the percentage of social drinkers arrested for driving under the influence in Chester County has been rising steadily since 1985, according to statistics compiled by the county's Council on Addictive Diseases (COAD). Bloomsburg University's student government president was charged with drunken driving just weeks after saying the media has unfairly portrayed students as irresponsible. Christopher Bevan, 21, was pulled over last weekend after a campus police officer said he saw the student driving more than 50 mph in a 15-mph zone. Actor-director Mel Gibson has been formally charged with drink-related offences after an incident in which he made anti-Semitic comments during his arrest. The Prince George's County Council introduced legislation yesterday to install "Don't Drink and Drive" signs at accident sites where someone has died at the hands of a drunk driver.
