Debate over whether checkpoints for DUI should be kept secret.

Dec. 30–Q In years past, you have reported on planned sobriety checkpoints. I can’t find this information any more. Is it still being listed? I always felt this served as a real show of force during the DUI crackdowns and likely made many drivers think twice about being on the road when they shouldn’t be. Cherie Valentine A The CHP says it is required to release the day, general location and time a drunken-driving checkpoint will be held a few days before the crackdown. Often, a few hours before the event police will release the times and location. Click on… |

More than 100 drivers were questioned and had their licenses checked. Six were arrested on charges of driving under the influence. George W. Bush’s DUI
Re: George W. Bush's arrest for driving under the influence in 1976: Shouldn't we have a right to know about a candidate's arrests and convictions before the election? I would hate to be hearing this after the election. Gov. Bush clearly tried to cover this up. Isn't this the real issue rather than Gov. Bush's alcohol problems in the past? It looks like this marble icon of integrity has feet of clay. DAN AHEARN New York City * While I believe George W. Bush should be forgiven for a mistake he made many years ago, I must question his judgment
