Cox won’t play after being charged with DUI

Tampa Bay kick returner Torrie Cox will miss Sunday’s game against Buffalo after being jailed on a charge of driving under the influence.

The reserve cornerback practiced Wednesday, however coach Jon Gruden said the third-year pro will not be in uniform against the Bills.

Cox, 24, faces possible disciplinary action from the NFL or team after being arrested on a drunken driving charge for the second time in nine months.

“His status will be decided upon later, but he ain’t playing in this game,” Gruden said after practice.

“I’m not going to say anything publicly other than this is going to be evaluated very carefully. There’s a lot of logistics nowadays in modern football that you have to abide by. We’ll do that.”

Cox returned four kickoffs for 83 yards and made one special teams tackle in last week’s 24-13 season-opening victory at Minnesota. He was arrested shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday and refused to take a blood alcohol test.

Last December, he was deactivated for three games after being charged with DUI during a traffic stop. He later pled no contest to a reduced charge of reckless driving.

“It’s never been our policy to discuss any type of team punishment,” Bucs general manager Bruce Allen said. “We’ve talked to Torrie and he knows exactly where he stands right now.”

Cox was not available for comment after practice.
