Bush Avoided Earlier Queries On DUI Charge

Republican presidential nominee George W. Bush says he has been
“very candid” about his past drinking problems. Running mate Richard
B. Cheney yesterday commended Bush for being “forthright” about his
arrest for driving under the influence.
But there is evidence that suggests Bush has at times taken
pains to avoid revealing the incident, ranging from what one Texas
reporter says was Bush’s outright denial that he had been arrested
after 1968 to carefully worded evasions when asked about …
