Buffalo Bills defensive end Bruce Smith was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after police in his home town of Virginia Beach said they found him sleeping at the wheel with his car running. Smith was found at an intersection at 6:21 a.m. Sunday, Virginia Beach police spokesman Mike Carey said yesterday. Smith’s 1996 four-door Mercedes was in a traffic lane. Smith, the NFL’s defensive player of the year last season, is under contract but not in training camp because of a contract dispute with the Bills.
