Fourteen people who had their licenses revoked because of drunken driving convictions were arrested again because they drove to court-mandated DUI meetings. They each face between one to six months of jail time and up to a $1,000 fine. “I hope this gets the message out that you need to make sure you don’t drive to one of these meetings with a revoked license,” said Reno Police Lt. Jim Ballard. The 14 people were arrested Thursday night when they arrived to attend a session of a Victim Impact Panel, where they were to listen to people talk about the tragedy of losing loved ones to drunken drivers. “It makes me mad all over again,” said Judy Jacobini, whose daughter was killed by a drunken driver eight years ago Saturday. “It shows they don’t have a lot of personal responsibility.” The driver’s license of a person convicted of driving under the influence is revoked for 90 days for a first offense, one year for a second conviction and three years for a third conviction. |
